Yoga with Rose
Yoga and Meditation Instructor
Rose stepped into her first yoga class at the age 16. At the end of the class she felt relaxed and intrigued at the same time. Upon returning home, Rose began to play with the postures that were done in the class. She then found a Power Yoga book at used bookstore and began to practice at home for up to an hour a day. During this time, Rose began to explore the subtle aspects of yoga, like the Chakras and the energy body. She then explored the body’s energy field and dabbled in healing. As part of her studies, Rose began to investigate meditation as a way to quiet her busy mind.
As often happens, life takes over and sometimes healthy habits fall away. Rose worked for 2 and a half years as a social worker with teens and then adjudicated sex offenders. Without a degree, she could move no further in the field and decided to go back to school full-time. Rose focused her studies on Sociology and Religious Studies as a dual major. She achieved the Dean’s List for two years and graduated in May of 2005.
While at school Rose decided that she wanted to make a positive change in her life. She remembered how good it felt to practice yoga. She decided to go to yoga classes at the gym 3 times a week at 7am. Rose walked into the class and met the teacher, Amy Weintraub. The class was perfect and suited her needs. Walking to school the morning, she passed under a eucalyptus tree and was overwhelmed with the scent – she knew she was hooked. Rose moved deeper into her body and deeper into herself. She began to remove the blockages that were keeping her in a foggy state.
As part of her education, Rose applied for and accepted a grant to travel to Taiwan and stay at the Fo Guan Shan Buddhist Monastery in Kaoshung. The program was a month long and involved daily meditation and movement like Tai Chi. Unhappy with the way her body was feeling in meditation due to slight scoliosis, Rose began to practice asana as she had learned with Amy. When the other students found out that Rose was practicing yoga, they approached her and asked that she teach them. Overwhelmed and excited, she acquiesced. During the course of that hour and a half session Rose knew she had found her passion.
Returning to Tucson, Rose signed up for a 250-hour certification program at the Providence Institute. She graduated in June of 2005 and began teaching that same month.
Since that time, Rose continues to delve deeply into the practice and theory of yoga. She studies many texts, both ancient and new. She has also begun to explore Sanskrit and chanting. Rose hopes to study Ayurveda in depth and to achieve a 500-hour certification.
From October 2005 until February 2007 Rose served as the President of the Arizona Yoga Association, www.azyoga.com. She continues to sit on the board. Rose has also worked to support TeraMundi World Wellness, www.terramundi.org, as well as the International Yoga College, www.americanyogacollege.com.
She has developed a close relationship with her teacher, Amy Weintraub. Today she works as Amy’s assistant and as the Program Manager of the LifeForce Yoga Healing Institute, founded and run by Ms. Weintraub. Rose travels with Amy, assisting at LifeForce Yoga for Depression and Anxiety Practitioner Trainings and has taught at The Crossings in Austin, TX and Kripalu in Lenox, MA as part of her assisting duties. www.yogafordepression.com
Rose teaches throughout the city of Tucson at Yoga Studios, Private Sessions and in corporate settings.
